THE WOMAN BEHIND THE CARIBBEAN BAKING AWARDS
SHANDA WEBSTER - GLASGOW
My name is Shanda Webster-Glasgow, a proud Saint Martiner and the Visionary Founder of the Caribbean Baking Awards (CBA), an initiative created to recognise and celebrate the artistry, talent, and innovation within the Caribbean’s baking industry. With a passion for elevating the craft of baking and pastry, she has dedicated her journey to creating opportunities for bakers, pastry chefs, and confectionery artists to gain visibility and recognition on both a regional and global scale.
"My journey in the world of baking is one of passion, perseverance, and purpose".
Shanda’s love for baking began long before she pursued it professionally. In 2020, she envisioned an initiative that would honor and highlight the extraordinary talent of Caribbean bakers.
This vision was planted while she pursued her studies in the Culinary Arts, specializing in Baking & Pastry, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2022. My academic journey was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Premier of the British Virgin Islands, Premier Natalio Wheatley, who supported my studies at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. That life-changing opportunity not only shaped her as a professional but also inspired her to one day give back, planting the seed that would grow into the Youth Scholarship Program.

Now, we look ahead with excitement to the 3rd Caribbean Baking Awards in July 2026, which promises to be our biggest celebration yet. Alongside this milestone, we will also launch the Youth Scholarship Program, a project deeply personal to Shanda because of how her own journey began. This scholarship program is designed to invest in the future of young Caribbean talents who dream of pursuing studies in culinary arts-baking, and pastry. It will provide not only financial assistance but also mentorship and exposure, helping the next generation to rise and thrive in the industry. By empowering our youth, we ensure that the Caribbean’s rich culinary traditions and innovative spirit continue to shine globally. |
In 2024, she officially launched the Caribbean Baking Awards, a platform created to celebrate the artistry, innovation, and resilience of bakers across the region. Since then, CBA has successfully hosted two major events, each one a powerful showcase of Caribbean talent. Though the journey has come with challenges, my unwavering determination and the encouragement of family and friends have kept me moving forward. Through resilience, faith, and the steadfast support of loved ones, Shanda have turned a simple idea into a regional movement. The Caribbean Baking Awards is more than an event, it is a legacy of empowerment, recognition, and opportunity for bakers across the Caribbean.
